What is autopsy?

The autopsy is an external and internal examination of the body after death, performed by a medical consultant, the pathologist, in which, using a combination of surgical-like techniques and microscopic examination we answer questions of medical relevance for the family and the community.

The autopsy findings are correlated with the medical records, imaging, laboratory data, lab analysis, and pre-mortem results to reach the ultimate goal of explaining the most likely cause of death and answer questions of medical significance, including the process of medical care, the condition of the decedent’s at death and findings related to genetic diseases of importance to the family members.
